A SIGN WITH SOME DEPTH.

Letters that stand
for something.

Channel letters are individually made, three-dimensional letters or logos. Each has a face and a side wall, often called a return. Lighting can shine through the front, wash the wall behind, or do both.

That construction gives a business name a physical presence. It also gives you choices: a bright acrylic face, a quiet brushed-metal finish, a warm halo, or a crisp unlit silhouette.

Same name.
Different character.

Start with the light. The rest
of the design follows.

01

Front-lit channel letters

Light shines through a translucent face. A familiar choice for a storefront that needs to read clearly after dark.

02

Halo-lit channel letters

Solid faces sit forward from the wall. Light escapes behind them, tracing each letter with a reflected glow.

03

Front & halo-lit letters

An illuminated face and a wall halo bring both visibility and depth. Plan the two light effects together.

04

Trimless channel letters

A clean face edge without a traditional visible trim cap. Especially worth exploring for a close-up view.

05

Non-illuminated letters

Dimensional metal or acrylic lettering makes its mark through shape, shadow and finish.

WHY CHANNEL LETTERS?

01 / VISIBILITY

Your name, after hours.

An illuminated face can keep your name legible when the street gets dark. The right size, contrast and placement matter as much as the light.

02 / CHARACTER

A finish that fits the place.

Match the lettering to the architecture: restrained metal on stone, bold acrylic on a busy retail frontage, or a soft halo in a reception area.

03 / FLEXIBILITY

Built around your brand.

Letter shapes, depth, mounting and lighting can work together. A supplier can review your logo and explain what can be fabricated cleanly.

THINK BEYOND THE LETTERS

It starts
with the wall.

A beautiful halo needs a surface to reflect from. A raceway needs room. A storefront sign needs to work with the building, the landlord and the street.

THE QUESTIONS WE WOULD ASK, TOO.

Before you
put your name on it.

Are channel letters the same as neon signs?

No. Channel letters are dimensional letter bodies, commonly lit with LEDs. LED neon signs use a flexible light strip to draw a glowing line. Choose channel letters for solid faces, metal finishes and architectural depth. See our comparison with LED neon.

Can I get a price from the designer?

The studio creates a visual brief. Your supplier quotes the actual fabrication, components, delivery and installation scope. Read what affects the cost before comparing offers.

Will my finished sign match the screen?

The preview helps you explore a direction. Screens cannot verify colour matching, light output, construction details or a wall’s structural suitability. Approve a supplier’s final proof and specification before production.

Who makes the sign?

This is an independent planning and design site. After designing, you choose who receives your enquiry on our supplier page. You arrange the quote and purchase directly with that business.
